Korean drama - day 16: Geumsan the Ginseng Town (9.12.11)

As I was writing day 16 on the note, I realized my trip in Korea was going to end soon and I already started to miss the country!

Had a hangover and woke up around 7 plus with the lights on!!  After my shower last night, I was resting on the bed and dozed off instead.  Set my alarm at 8 and continued my dream. Woke up still spinning, I decided to rest until 9 to catch the 10:30am bus to Daejeon.

Reached the bus terminal with 10min to spare and suddenly had the big urge.  My problem came to haunt me again and left my phone inside the toilet!  When I came out from the cubicle, a guy went in immediately.  And when I returned to the toilet, it was a different guy who came out from the cubicle!  But really thankful and blessed that my phone was not taken away!
Welcome to Geumsan!

Ginseng Ginseng!
It started to snow again and got heavier when the bus arrived.  While seated, I was amazed gazing at the snow falling on the window screen and melt slowly.  Occasionally when the wind was strong, the snow would be going literally side way.   Reminded me of my Shikoku pilgrimage during one of the day when I was daring with the heavy rain and heavy snow that literally went side way hitting directly from the front!   Oh, I love snow!!

More Ginseng!
Still a lot more Ginseng!
It was a very nice spacious bus.  There was supposed to be allocated seat, but I decided to stay put until someone complain.  Yet one thing I didn't quite like was the heat again.  It was always very warm and stuffy inside the bus!!

After a while, the faulty seat kept sliding backwards and really pushing me to the limit.  Glad I managed to switch to the seat behind caused I could feel the wind outside and made the trip more comfortable.

And even more ginseng!
We stopped at 12pm for a 20 minutes break.  When I went into the toilet, I was shocked to find a section where anyone who likes dog can come to play with them.  I never thought someone would be weirder than me to think of such idea.
"I'm a ginseng in a bottle
baby...."
Time really flies! Nowadays, a 2 hours plus journey seemed short.  I was about to reach Daejeon very soon.  Coincidentally, I probably had visited been to all the cities with a World Cup Football stadium in Korea!!  This one at Daejeon was really nice, just next to the tollgate.

At the bus terminal, I need to switch to a local bus.   It was great that there were buses to
Welcome to Korean Spa!
Geumsan every 10 minutes.   This should be a famous place I guessed, as I was guided with many signs all the way to the platform where I should board the bus.   At 2:05pm, the bus departed with only 2 passengers.

Drinking cup..
Daejeon was sunny when I arrived, but it started snowing again now.  More passengers boarded at a different station where we stopped for 5min.  After an hour ride, we reached the town and immediately, I could smell ginseng!!  Exactly like Rotorua in New Zealand where I could smell Sulphur!

Following the direction in the book, I came to the Ginseng Market in a short while.  It was very easy to locate and only a short distance walk away.   I looked around the market for a while and before finding my accommodation which was a 24 hours Korean style spa.  After a little struggle, I finally saw the signboard but just somehow could not find the entrance.  Later, I realized I was on the wrong lift.  The entrance was not exactly very close to the signboard.  In the end, I have to make a turn and back to where I crossed the bridge.

My so-so Ginseng Chicken
lunch!
The menu at the Ginseng restaurant!
After the lodging was settled, I could hang around at ease now.  First of all was to satisfy my appetite!  Hopped into a restaurant with an English menu for the first time!!  I ordered the ginseng chicken which I supposed should be something that could not go wrong in a Ginseng city!  For a whole chicken, W10000 was actually pretty reasonable.  However, the taste was really so-so. The first meal in Korea that was not “wow” for me!! =]

Piles of head pillows!
After that, I shopped around for some ginsengs for my parents since it's so famous here.

The town was small and nothing was left to check out after just close to 5pm!  Didn’t want to go to the spa so soon, I was looking to spend a little time in a coffee shop with wifi access.  In the end, nothing was found and I ended up in the spa using the wifi there.

The local eggs which took
me some effort to finish cause
it comes in three!
The place looked sluggish but the interior was clean and nice.  Although not big, there were small hot rooms and cold rooms.  There was even a karaoke room and plenty of food on sales.  I tried one of their local eggs which was rather not my taste because it was cold.
Future Korean pop stars!

It seems like going to spa is a family outing here.  I met several families inside with kids as small as 2 years old!! =]

There were a few cute little kids curious about my laptop.  Especially the one who kept drooling his saliva around!! I wanted so much to take their pictures but worried the parents would not feel comfortable.  The parents knew how to fold the towel into nice little cap with two bun on the side for the kid.
